Hoping to travel to australia this september, looking to hook up with people travelling from Ireland around the same time. No definite plans so open to any suggestions.

Heading over in June so by September I'll hopefully be an honourary Aussie, have plenty of new found friends and will have a vast knowledge of every watering hole in Sydney and beyond. Come and tag along. The more the merrier

Also, seems to be plenty of people from Ireland and UK heading over so should have no difficulties getting travel buddies.

Hey there miss

I'm headin over to oz end of september myself, but not gettin there until maybe end january. I'm goin via europe, russia (trans siberian express), china, se asia and then over to oz. Im from Belfast myself, but i'm at Manchester finishing my last yr of uni, well cant wait to get away tho.

Most of my mates are settling down or cant afford to go, im heading off on my own at this point but reckon it'll be more enjoyable with a few other people. Sure, let me know if youd be up for that kinda journey, and sure if not then good luck when you head out there yourself ;)

Hello Ed,
Really sounds like you have ur trip all worked out, making me feel totally unorganised,(which i usually am) what are your plans when you get to Oz?? Are you staying to work, or just buzzing around? How are you planning to travel across europe/russia/china? Roughing it or luxury? I have no sure plans myself and ur suggestions have definitely sparked my interest, unfortunately i cant afford 5 star accommadation.
I am definitely planning to work in oz. Sorry bout the mountain of questions....Let me know and we'll see if we have similar ideas.

Ah no worries at all about the questions, sure dont i love talkin about it all anyways! Dunno about you, but I get a wee bit embarrassed talkin bout it to my mates seein as theyre not goin, feel like im rubbin it in like, so work away!

Right, first thing, i do have quite a bit planned, but thats only what I do when im supposed to be studyin, apparently its called activity displacement. I like it has a name, kinda justifies me skivin like hehe. The other reason im plannin is im defo not plannin any kinda luxury travel, hostels, cheap countries and do it yourself travel is the way im lookin at it. I had my first taste of it last year in thailand/laos and to be honest i reckon it would be borin as hell to do it in comfort, i dont reckon you meet too many of the real people that way ya know. Also, dont take my plans as nailed in, I just thought it might be good to get an idea of what im doin so I can start gettin an idea of how much i'll need and when i might need to work etc.

The (sorta) plan is to travel manchester to singapore by land then fly to oz, do 3 mths fruit pickin, that way you get an option of a 2nd yrs workin visa. Then im prob flyin back to ireland for my wee sisters wedding, then back out to oz for a long stint workin, maybe look to live somewhere for a while. Im hopin by then i'll have decided what to do next, but theres loads of possibilities. Phew! Told ya I didnt get to talk about it too much!

Anyways, I was originally headin off on my own, my mates have either been away, are too afraid, havent saved, or are just happy where they are. Was on this site doin a wee bit of reseach and seen loads of randoms gettin together for part/all of their journeys, and it definately would be better with people to do it with, even if I do enjoy my own company :)

Ok, so I guess thats a good bit of waffle for ya to go on, let me know if you want to know anymore, I have an essay to do, so no doubt i'll be lookin for excuses not to ;)

Take care

Eddie x

Howdy, Thanks for the reply, loadsa info there anyway. Im the same with chattin to my mates about it all mainly because they dont seem to believe i will actually do it as im planning to go it alone and i guess a girl travelling on her own is pretty scary.. (Hence the search for partners in crime.)But if i sat around waiting for it to happen i wud have a serious pain in my ass. Im in two minds about whether to go to Australia first and wetting my appetite for travel there and then heading upwards to south east asia, or like yourself make my way across towards Oz. The time of year your planning to hit russia(winterish) might be a nightmare, correct me if im wrong but 'Brass monkeys' weather, but i guess you've thought about all that.. You've definitely given me food for thought and like yourself i should be delegating my time to more practical pursuits (looming Exams) rather than dreaming of escape. Keep me updated on your plans.
Cool as beans,
Caroline...

Hey there,

I'm heading over to Oz in September. I'm thinking about going to SE Asia first maybe starting in Thailand and seeing a bit there. I was there for 3 weeks a couple of years ago and loved it so figure it might be a good place to start, somewhere i kinda know.
I'm a bit like yourself no definate plans, well yet anyway so would be open to other suggestions!! I just want to see as much as possible and have a laugh on the way. All my friends are settled here so I'm heading out on my own. A little bit scary but not going to let it stop me.
I do have friends living in Melbourne but I want to travel around a good bit over there so not sure when I'll get to Melbourne or for how long.
I will be travelling on a budget. Think thats the best way to really see a country. When I was in Thailand it was a luxury holiday and I missed out on so much stuff that way.
Sure, let me know if any of this takes your interest. It would be good to have some company.

Hi Linda,
Nice to hear from another female whos not afraid of travelling in something less than luxury. It sounds like our dates co-incide anyway, (need the summer here to organise myself and save like mad) and as i said im pretty open to ideas.. you at least have a little bit of experience of thailand, how long were u thinking of staying there? I definitely want to visit south east asia, its on my 'to do' list. I want to end up doin some travel and some work when i get to Austrailia, and maybe making my way down the east coast from Cairns, the whitsunday islands, the gold coast and eventually down to Melbourne, it seems like a pretty popular route. Where in Eire are you from?? I think its the innitial flight and landing in a foreign country im a little wary of, but if i had company i know it would be easier, and i could start making definite plans now. Just so excited to be finally able to travel.. Anyway send me a message if your serious about it all and you have similar ideas.
All the best.

heya folks,

a couple of us are heading to france in sept for the rugby world cup and if all goes to plan will then head onwards to oz start of oct. should have my whv sorted this week cant wait!
undecided whether we're heading to oz from france or dublin and me mate is talking of stalling in thailand on route just to complicate things.
not too pushed about thailand myself so will probably head straight to oz and set up shop either sydney or melbourne.
if thats the case it'll be my first time travelling alone so defo if anyone is on for meeting up over in oz (or france as a matter of fact) drop me a line.
hope to hear from yous soon, andy.
