As the end of my sixth form education got closer and closer I started to think about traveling, but as all my friends had there own plans I kept putting it off as a viable option. I'd never travelled before let alone hought about doing it by myself! But i realised that however nervous i was about going for it (and telling my parents so!) I would regret it forever if I didn't.
So I'm currently planning and saving for a 8/9 month trip around the USA. I'm scared shitless, but talking to people who have travelled alone themselves they all say the same thing - your never alone for long! so now I'm looking forward to all the people I will meet when I'm there!! xx
Go!!! You'll have a blast on your own.
Someone already may have said this, but make contacts before you go. There are almost certainly people on TP and other travel sites who live in the areas you want to visit. Get to know them now so you'll have people to meet you when you arrive. I'm a lone traveler, and I do this as much as possible before I travel; it makes my trip a lot more fun since I'm assured of knowing at least one person in each place I visit.
What everyone else said, screw the friends. I'm doing Italy for 5 weeks at the end of June. However, originally it was only to be for 2-3 weeks with 2 friends and they backed out. Now I have the freedom to extend the trip and even add another week in London
