hey!

I was in Thailand in September - don't worry about getting from Bangkok to Phuket at all. There are soooo many travel places in Bangkok that will take you anywhere for a few quid - it'll be really easy for you to find and book a bus journey quickly. I think the journey's about 10 hours or something because i decided to fly for £40 instead. A lot of the buses are overnight for that journey.

Not actually sure if that's any help, but i just wanted to say don't worry about it!

I didnt realise the flights were that cheap? Can you just turn up at the airport and book a flight there and then?

I like the bus journeys - night buses mean you save accomodation! he he and im a budget backpacker.

So there really that easy to get?? If i flew in about 6pm ish would i still be able to get a bus that evening do you think?

Rebecca,
Most of the buses for Phuket leave around 6-7pm for the overnight journey. No, you would not be able to arrive in BKK and get to the Southern Bus Terminal in time for that night's departures. You also must book online to get the cheap airfares available from the discount Asian airlines. It maybe possible to arrive and fly to Phuket that same evening. Check Nok Air & Air Asia.

I think your best bet is to stay ovenight in BKK, sightsee that day and get yourself to 'Sai Tai Mai' or Southern Bus Terminal by 5:00pm. You should be able to book a VIP or Air Con bus to Phuket on the spot. Or another option is to stay in the Khao San Road section of BKK and book it from a travel shop. They leave from the KSR area and are priced similiar to buses leaving from 'Sai Tai Mai'. Good Luck.

I'm sitting on Kao San Rd in Bangkok right now, from the window of this internet cafe I can see 2 different places where I could book a bus ticket to Phuket. The prices are between 350 baht and 500 baht. Current exchange rate is 35 baht to $1. So, that's about $10-$15 for the bus.

I took the bus to Krabi (nearby to Phuket) about 3 weeks ago. Listen to the person above, take the flight. You will save yourself a night of living hell. The people that were driving the bus went through all of our bags overnight. I didn't leave anything valuable in the bag, but other people had things stolen from them. It is really cramped on the bus and next to impossible to sleep. They had Air Conditioning so it wasn't hot, but those buses suck. I just took another one today and I am definitely doing the rest of my traveling by train. I'm done with the buses.

If you still insist on taking the bus, they leave daily from Kao San Road at about 6-7pm. You can buy the ticket the same day with NO PROBLEMS. It's so easy to travel through Thailand.

I still recommend either the train or flight through.

hey listen to the person above - GET THE FIGHT!

i got a bus frm Bangkok to phuket when i was in Thailand, Big mistake - definaly a night of living hell. Journey was supposed to take 12 hours, by the time we arrived at our hotel in phuket it was 23 hours onwards!!!!!!!!! the bus randomly stopped over on the side of the road at like 4am, unloaded us and all our baggage and left us sitting on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. the drive said someone else would come for us.4 hours later a load of pck up vans arrived and we had to cram into the bac of them to be taken and dumped somewhere else. oh it was a bloody nightmare im telling you!
