Hi all, I arrived in Oz last November and after some travelling I need to start work big time. I'm loving Oz and think of seriously staying longer than my 1 year visa. To do that I am hoping to work in the area of accounting/finance/banking (the areas related to my courses) but I have no experience as I am just out of college! Can anyone shed some light on how to 'break into' the industry. Alot of employers just see you as a traveller and have no interest!! Help please! All info grealy appreciated!
Well, I guess to show an employer you're not just a traveller is a good starting point! Presumably if you're thinking of starting out in Oz, you'd be looking to settle for a while, rent a place etc. A permanent address will help.
Websites like Seek (think it's http://www.seek.com.au) are good for applying for jobs. Can't offer any sage advice about breaking into the industry but getting your CV out there could be a goer. Or, if you have some savings, doing some volunteer finance work for a charity organisation or something to build up some practical experience?
A practical way of staying in Australia working, is via study, maybe best option. There are affordable options e.g. from AUD2000 per half year, and if you study 2 years you can apply for residency via points system:
