i was wondering about whether it would be worth while to take along one of those small video cameras you get that put things directly onto cd? im setting off in July and i love taking photos and videos and think it would be ace to be able to send these back home to friends and family but was wondering if they are worth the money? and is it a danger for getting mugged? be great to hear from anyone who has one or has used one before and any suggestions of what type
Katie - it depends on how you are travelling and where you are going?
I bought a digital video recorder about 2 years back and love it we use it everywhere we go. Its not the CD burning one (although l wish l had held out for one of those) its a dv tape one - and we simply record the tapes onto DVD when we get home (albeit there is a backlog at present!)
Now usually we travel to maybe one or two destinations on a trip and are in quite good hotels but when we took a month long trip to Australia & New Zealand in Dec/Jan past we were only in one place for a few days at a time, we were in hostels & B&Bs (although we had private rooms) and still took the video recorder.
I must say though l have all these tapes of where in the world we visited but we barely ever watch them - keep meaning to have a big night in with all the trips and lots of popcorn and wine and watch them! Friends & family only like to zone in and out of the ones we have tried to show them - l think 1.5hours of the various exhibitions & artifacts in the Hermitage in St Petersburg put them off!
I would go for it personally!
thanks thats really helpful, i will be in india for 3 months and then in Australia, New Zealand (for most of the year) Fiji and New York. can't wait! it sounds like a great idea being able to send videos home of it all but i just wanted an idea of whether it was worth it.
