Travel Forums Europe Buying of Train tickets at Vienna Airport

tehsi has indicated that this thread is about Austria

I will be leaving for Vienna in 3 days time. I am travelling from Malaysia and upon arrival in Vienna, we will immediately take a coach to Budapest. I have to purchase the train ticket (Vienna to Munich) on the day of arrival in Vienna.

After I called the officer at Die Bahn to purchase the train tickets from Vienna to Munich (discounted fare), they inform me that I have to purchase in person in order to entitle to the saver tickets or through online. I cannot purchase online because they can only deliver to my address which I would have already flew overseas.

Only problem with purchasing the tickets in person is that I'll be arriving Vienna really early in the morning at 6am on the 15th March and I don't know if the counter for the train tickets will be open by then. Does anyone know when the counter will be open at Vienna Airport?

Please help. Is there any other way of arranging to purchase the train tickets??

Appreciate your help.

Regards,

Kathleen

can only say how it works here, 330km from Vienna...

at 6am counters are closed, u can get ur tickets from those 'automat/machine' things, but I'm not sure about 'speacial fare tickets'.

If I lived there, I'd get it for u the day b4 and give it to u on arrival *g*

Vienna is huge and the trainstation much bigger, so maybe there's a chance of counetrs that are open??? Have u checked on www.oebb.at ???

Thanks for your offer! :) Thanks for your kind thoughts!

I did check the oebb website and I have even called them up personally just to check if I can purchase over the phone and pick up the tickets (later) on the day of departure. The officers said "nope sorry, tickets have to be purchased online (which we will mail to your address) or in person if you want to enjoy the saver tickets".

As I will be leaving in 2 days' time.. mailing is definitely out of the question. They won't even mail it to the hotel in Vienna. How frustrating.

The thing is, I want to purchase the saver50 tickets and one of the conditions stated on the website is that the tickets have to be purchased 3 days in advance before departure. I won't be back to Vienna only later which will only give me 2 days to my departure to Munich.. therefore won't be able to purchase the saver tickets. ERRRKKKK!!! I'm lost, frustrated and really don't know where or what else to do.

so lost........

Kathleen
