I am Naveen from London. I am new to london. I want to know which are good places in UK to visit on weekends or long weekends. I have heard of scotland and wales as two options. Pls advise about other options. Also suggest some good price hotels/appartments and how to go in those places.

Scotland is a bit far for a weekend...why not go to Salsibury - Stonehenge and Avebury are nearby. Or York even in the North.

Hey Naveen

You could fly from Luton or Stanstead and visit most cities - Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Newcastle - but they are cities and after you see one you have seen them all! Easyjet are a cheap low cost carrier which would fly to these areas.

Bath and Brighton might be options where you can get a train from London easily.

Bath i can really recommend absolutely lovely city!

If you have a 3-day weekend then Edinburgh might be a good bet too.

The Lake District is lovely if you want to see some mountains, get there on one of Mr Branson's very safe and fast pendolinos. Many OK YHAs to stay at.

Stonehenge? Surely not for a whole weekend, even for enthusiasts ;)

Cardiff is also very possible for a weekend - can make this trip via train from Paddington station.

Leeds Castle near Maidstone on a weekend (not for a whole weekend!!), as well as Windsor Castle if you're into this kind of thing.

Stratford Upon Avon is amazing on a sunny day (birthplace of shakespear) - and Wales is extremley underated. Its a lovely place for camping, fishing - outdoor stuff.

Conway castle in north Wales is the best castle ive ever been seen.
If your interested in Medieval England youll love it.

If you're interesting in medieval Wales, even the better for going to Conwy ;)

Also in Conwy is Plas Mawr. There are also quite a few other places in north Wales worth a visit, including Beaumaris, and Llangollen.

I recommend York. A great place for a bit of history and shopping all rolled into one. If you want to stay in luxury you could try marmadukes hotel - we stayed there for three nights - absolutely fantastic. plus we booked it all online - REMOVED-

I've heard about the beauty of Bath, and I'm planning to visit Bath on one of the weekends. What can I do in Bath? What is the best way to get to Bath? By train or by car? I heard that the frequency of trains is lower on weekends.
