I'm planning a trip to Southeast Asia, tentatively leaving in March 2008. It's obviously still a long ways away, but I'm thinking of initially flying into Thailand and taking it from there. I haven't quite narrowed down the places I want to see yet. I'll be going for four or five months and I'll be going alone. I'd be interested in hearing from anybody who thinks that they may be in the area at a similar time, or anyone who has done a Southeast Asia backpacking tip themselves and has any advice on how to plan a route or anything else that may be relevant. Thanks Katie
no offense sweetheart, but that's quite a long time from now but i can tell you this...thailand is basically in the center of everything. so in a way it would be a good starting point considering you've a good number of choices as to what path you shall take. but because of this, you may end up back tracking a bit. truthfully, it really depends how long you're going to spend travelling.
if you're travelling for an extended period of time, doesn't really matter where you start, but if you're travelling a short period of time...choose wisely. i know it's a bit vague, but hopefully that helps.
