Hello Chaitali

The more South u go, in Europe, the warmer it will be. But it is by no means warm, anywhere in Europe, in January.

If I were u, I would go for what Winter has to offer. It would be romantic, in the Alps, in January, in a cosy hotel, with the snow comming down outside.

Highest temperatures are around 15 degrees, maybe 20 if you are very lucky. Might check the Canary Islands, is europe as well.
Otherwise, Lapland is nice.....bit cold but very romantic!

Moorish Spain (Al-Andalus) is very hot during the rest of the year. Late autumn, winter and early spring are the only comfortable times to see the area. It will be cool and rainy during December, though.

Check it out:

The only really warm place in December near Europe with a beach is Egypt. But even Cairo can be cold in December - it was 5 deg. C in 2005.

Also check out the Azores and Madeira, which are part of Portugal.

The Canaries are politically part of Spain, but geographically they are part of Africa. It is warm enough there during December.

Hi There,

I would say the Algarve in Portugal. It's a warmer climate, pretty much as far south as you can get. Even though it's January the beaches there are great for strolling along. The best part is you will see more of the locals then you will the tourist crowd since it's a hot spot in the summer. I went early spring and loved it. I got a room in a shared apartment for 13 Euros a night. I've heard it's even cheaper than that. Nobody was on the beach when I went so I could just walk around and explore without trouble.

I really suggest going there and don't worry about accomodations there will be someone to meet you at the bus stop I'm sure.

Good Luck

I am from Spain, and I am from the south, so you can imagine what can I say to you: go to the very south of Spain and enjoy the nice temperatures there, I can tell you sometimes can be more than 20 (Sevilla or Cádiz). Algarve is also a very good option. And I also think that if you go to Italy you will have very nice places (and islands) to visit. I agree with the idea that some places in europe are very romantic to visit in winter, but some others like the south part are even better to do visit at that season because later it is too hot!
Have fun!

Hello Chaitali

What about up in the alps?
A cosy chalet, with lots of snow outside. That would be romantic, wouldnt it?

Anyway, it is traditional not to leave your bed, on a honeymoon, so what does the weather matter?;)

It has been already suggested above… but I have to say it is incredibly romantic to walk on a beach after New Year and have the beach to yourself. I did this at Praia da Rocha, Portimão, Algarve.

Before 10AM the beach is deserted and after only a few couples stroll along. I think all of the young couples were on honeymoon and the older ones looked as if they were in love too!

The temperature was a very warm 19C and a few people were in the sea! Others were in bikini sunbathing.

Praia da Rocha was very quite and peaceful…as were the restaurants…the sun was glorious!
