Maybe I'm reading too fast, too, but I don't get how Sam's reply answers Michael's original question.

Since the position of a post in a thread is tagged anyway, allowing to query on first posts by a particular member in across all forums (in a specific time span) should be easy to implement. It would make a useful tool, and I don't see how it doubles extant functionalities. Or am I missing something here?

I'll admit that the actual searching on 1st post doesn't exist yet, but what I see here is creating functionality that can already be achieved in one of three ways.

1. subscribe to the threads you start :)
2. if you don't like option 1 and if not too long back, check your list of last 50 threads you posted in
3. if you don't like 1 and 2, and you want to find answers to a thread you started up to one year earlier, do a search for all threads that you have posted in that included certain words you know are a part of this first post you made.

What is essentially being suggested is a 4th way to find threads you have participated in (started specifically). In reality, I think 95-99% of all users also subscribe to the threads they start, and keep it that way as long as the are interested in them. So this 4th method would apply to only 1-5% of all users and even then be an additional method that can already be achieved in other ways.

From a resource allocating perspective (we only have so many hands and hours in a day, and that becomes shorter with the more moderating we have to do ), I basically don't think the time is worth it considering there are tons of other features that are more necessary and can't be done some other way :)

I like option #2 a lot, actually, and it also captures more or less what I would have used Michael's suggestion for otherwise; just didn't know it existed :)

One of the reasons I threw it in there :) You can also get directly to that page by adding the 'My Latest Forum Entries' taglet to your home page (hit the Add Content link after logging in and select it from the list).

I swear I never noticed that button saying I could display my latest 50 posts... am I blind as a bat, or is it a recent addition?

For users like myself, it sure wouldn't hurt to have a 'what's new'-thread in this forum. One to which only you and Peter could post, I mean :)

Hey Niels - you've learned something new about TP two days in a row! Ooohhh, what will tomorrow bring?? ;)

The feature has been around for awhile now. No matter what template you choose for your homepage, you can add "My Latest Posts" (which includes the "50 Latest Forum Posts" link) to the page content. You can even pick the column in which it will appear. It's a pretty nifty little feature.

On a slightly different tack. I'd love the option to change the info there from "activitiy since i last posted" in a thread to "activity since i last read the thread".

That's been there as long as the latest posts thing exists I think (a quick search reveals a thread from march last year when it already existed in any case and the search doesn't go back further or I'd be able to tell you when it launched ;) )....

Peter and me usually make small launches either here in system talk or in the travellerspoint blog. The big updates would probably occur in both :)

Agreed that that would be nice and we've discussed this quite seriously. Unfortunately it requires quite a bit more work as we would then need to start tracking on a per user level each time they view a thread (not the simple aggregated +1 for each view a thread currently gets). I believe it is on the 'forum to do' list though :)
