I'm taking this opportunity to rant at the rediculously translated subtitles for Amelie. Along with cutting out half the dialogue, they translated "page 51" into "page st." (it's spelled the same in both languages - how can they go wrong?). Yeesh!

Im going of on a tangent but l hate it when a movie is made out of a book and characters are dropped and new endings are added just to make it more friendly to the movie going public - mini rant over............

It's all for the money. You have to make sure you get a movie that appeals to as many people as possible by sacrificing everything that stands in the way (like internal logic, innovation, story) and cast at least 1 teenage idol with zero talent but a face that makes preteens' eyes water.
Where's the artistry gone? Are there any artists left who actually care about making a good movie rather than a lot of cash?
My 'avoid films with this actor in it' is growing day by day. It's currently lead by Orland 'I can't act but the teenies love me' Bloom. This guy has exactly 2 facial expressions: Frown and No-Frown. That's it. At least Keanu Reeves has a certain style (as long as he doesn't talk) and he's been in Bill and Ted, so that redeems him somewhat.

Robin Hood also almost certainly didn't exist.

I don't think Maid Marion is going to like hearing that news one bit! But, maybe the convent is filtering her e-mail.

1) France actualy won a war
2) the United States singlehandedly won both world wars
3) All australians are ABBA fans and fight croc's
4) Pigs speak english (Babe)

1) France has an army?
2) We didn't?
3) They don't? (Don't tell James!)
4) Yes, they do! I've heard them! They are also quite fluent in Albanian.

Isa must leave now because all of her beliefs about movies have been lies - nothing but lies.

The greatest war/battle France (or the Franks) ever won was the Battle Of Tours in 732.
The battle at Tours was the turning point battle of the undeclared war between the Muslims and the Christians. This battle won by Charles Martel and his Franks stopped the spread of Islam into Western Europe.Instead of Christianity, Islam might be the dominant religion in Europe.
Without that victory this modern world we take for granted would not exist.

Charles Martel (pbuh).

indeed, we would be way more advanced in a lot of things. Keeping in mind that the Muslims were way ahead of the 'western' world around that time.

So thanks, but no thanks to Monsieur Martel.

You could say that about any period in history though.

Anyone read "Fatherland"?

Around that time Islam was hellbent on conquering the world for Allah. The 'Golden Age of Islam' came much later.
Sticking to the thread subject, the tired but truism of Hollywood still applies as an anology.
'You are only as good as your last movie', and Islam hasn't made a movie for nigh on 500 years.

I can't believe a thread concerning Hollywoods disregard but factual accuracy, in favour of all action, blood, guts and ratings, has gone on so long without even a mention of Braveheart!!
