I'm heading to China in just a few days, and will definitely be making a visit to the Great Wall. I know that Jinshanling and Simatai are pretty popular and easy to get to, most hostels can arrange tours to them. But does anyone have any information on getting to Huanghua from Beijing? Has anyone done it?
It is not easy if you don't read Chinese.
First take bus no. 916 at Dong Zhi Men station to the stop of Huairou Convention Center, and transfer to mini bus to Xi Shui Yu, the final station. It is about 65 km away from Downtown.
If you are more photographical, I recommend Jian Kou (the arrow lock), the wild Great Wall.
yes, we have done it. we tried it first by bus but as my chinese is not fluent it was impossible to find the right bus. we took from the bus station where the bus is supposed to leave a taxi which was at the end the best decision, i think. we paid 120 quais for 2 people both ways. the driver brought us there, showed us where to go and waited until we came back. the wall at huanghua is fantastic. no tourists and still the original wall. it is forbidden though to climb the wall. we did it anyway and ended up having quiet a discussion with local poeple who wanted to call the police. but as the chinese are very honest we paid them a few quais extra to keep them quiet. i defintely would go there again! i hope this helps a bit...
