Hi, i'm due to go to Bomingo island in the Keta District of the Volta Region of Ghana in January to live and work in the village. Has anyone been to this island please? Does anyone have any information, advice, stories etc? I'm looking for anything anyone can tell me about the villages, the island, the islanders, living, working or visiting this area. Thanks for reading this.
Hi Ghanasgirl, I looked it up out of interest but couldn't find much about it.
Check this website out.
What takes you there anyway?
Hi mikeyboab. look under this thread at my other post titled 'how do young children cope with drastic cultural change?'....explains the reasoning behind the apparent madness! If you still want to understand why i would want to return to this rural life in Africa look at some of the posts in the Africa and Middle East forum under the post of 'The real africa?'... one of the replies says about the real Africa being the places where the poverty is so harsh but the people are so happy..it makes us understand that money and material things do not make life or make us alive...people do. In the village i saw in Kenya, where the people had nothing but love, friendship, happiness and teamwork to survive and make the best of their situation, i found what life really is... give a lot of love and care and you'll get it right back! and guess what? That feels a whole lot better than getting my salary or sitting in my nicely furnished home. Like the author of the post says, 'it makes you feel alive'. Hope this explains a little! Thanks for the interest!
