Hey all

So my partner and I have finally decided to take the plunge and upsticks and travel the world for a year in 2008.

We have been together 4 1/2 years and started discussing marriage and children then thought wait if we did have kids now then travelling would be off the agenda for a while.

I'm nearly 26 and he's 28 we have a mortgage and hopefully will have made enough money on the property to put into a savings account which will help us get back on the ladder again when we come back.

I'm so excited I just need to pay off some debts which I have started to tackle already selling stuff at carboots and markets, hopefully I'll make enough to help pay for the trip too.

We definitely want to travel South America for about 5 months so need to split the remaining 7 months to fit in South East Asia and Newzealand. Not too bothered about Australia. I would really love to visit USA and Canada but I'm not sure time will allow it.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated although I will now spend time lurking the forum with my notebook and pen, I have a lot to trawl through.

Emma

you've made the right choice... you've got plenty of time for marriage, kids, mortgage and all that goes with it :)

i can't help you much really because i'm planning my trip too... so i'm a bit clueless as you really :) this forum is great for advice though !!

i'll also be leaving in 2008 and starting off in South America, then Canada, NZ, Asia and then Africa.

happy travels...

Its a great feeling isnt it? when you decide to do it!

I feel so fulfilled by travelling, and I hope you get that from it too.
You're going on pretty much the same trip as I have too
(South America - NZ - South East Asia) so if you need any help le me know. ;)

Happy researching! It's one of the best bits I think. :)

If you had a round the world ticket you could fit the US in as well, but maybe not both US and Canada. It is a big country, but why do you need to see the whole entire country? If you got to see the best of the best well surely that would be good enough for one visit. If you were to get a One World RTW ticket, you could possibly fit Easter Island in to your South America itinerary which is defintely a once in a lifetime type chance and is very interesting.

South America is really interesting especially if you get in to the southern regions of Argentina and Chile.

You have definitely made a good choice, because this is an opportunity you will probably never get to experience again if you have kids and certainly not until you are old aged.

Have a great trip.
