James and Beerman, I started this thread, to ask peoples opinions, about the existance of the World Sex Guide(on the web) to cater to sex tourists.

Funny, I don't recall seeing a question there.....it seemed to be more of a statement of disgust.

Judging by the replies I am getting, I think I may not be clearly stating the topic. I am looking for your feelings, about the existance of the sex guide.
This guide is for the sex industry all around the world. It is not about one particular area of prostitution. I dont think it checks to see if the prostitutes are happy with their job, before it includes their services in the guide. 60% of the people, around the world, who work in the sex industry are doing it unwillingly.

60%? Really? How did you come by this figure? Did you know that 72% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

Hmmm, feelings on the sex guide.....um, hmmmm, how about.....it's a valid publication. Some people may use it for ill means, but some may use it for legitimate means. But who is the voice of morality to say it should not be allowed to exist? You? If so, you'd better make a stand about what sort of sex would be allowed in this new Utopia....only straight, only gay, she-males on he-she's, sheep in stockings, or the classic "only for reproductive purposes"...........

Since the human rights of many people who work in the sex industry are being violated and this should stop, I object to this sex guide. There are not enough controls on it.

You have every right to object, and I will defend your right. However, you seem to say that since a part of the system is broken, the whole system should be banned. Have you ever read 1984....pick up a copy and check it out. Perhaps Animal Farm as well. What you are advocating is curtailing the rights of the whole, to satisfy the rights of a few. Very interesting point of view.

U are right Sam.
The internet is such a good source of information, but at the same time, there seems to be no way to control easy access to dangerous or indecent information.

Again, Mel, who is going to be the Voice of Morality and decide what is dangerous and indecent? Remember the old saying, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"? Yes, that is Christian, but I'm sure it transcends other religions. Who is the one without sin?

It is so very dangerous for someone to just make a blanket statement "This is dangerous" without having all the facts. This is how cults start. How censorship begins. How personal responsibilty is replaced with governmental oversight.

By the way, as an aside, text message typing is really annoying. Would you please consider typing out the word "you" rather than "u"?

Yes, as I said, i sometimes dont express myself clearly.
I make this mistake, when I presume that the information I have on a subject is common knowledge and thus everybody will know what I mean, by my statements.. ;)

60%? Really? How did you come by this figure?

My boyfriend used to be a member of the youth socialist party, and this is the information that they believe to be correct, from the sources available.;)
And I hope that someplace in that long post of yours, which I am currently reading, that u give your opinion, as I asked of you, on the topic I asked it about..;)

I usually trust the human rights organizations along with my own judgement, to be the voice of morality.
I cant make the decision, about what is to be in the sex guide, because it is not my website. As for the stand, to say what should be in it. How would u suggest one should make a stand, against things, which are on the internet?

So Isadora, since u have accessed it, does it give information, for where people can avail of sex services, around the world?

Yes, but not in the way one may think. It is a forum site. All reviews and recommendations are made by the posting members. It is broken down by region and then by country. Basically, it's people expressing their experiences which could be factual, but I'm sure quite a bit is fiction to make for better telling. There is also an area for escort service advertising and contact information for those services. The banner ads connect one to other pornographic sites.

Also, does it state, that the sex workers who work in the places they advertise are not children and or adults who are forced to work in the sex industry?

This is not a "real" guide (neither in printed nor in e-book format), mainly men posting their opinions. Here are parts of their terms and conditions listed on the site:

  • Webmaster's e-mail address has been removed.

You understand that all models appearing on the Site are, and were at the time of all recorded images, at least 18 years of age, and that the Site contains no child pornography. We take a strong and definite stand against child pornography and only publish images of consenting adults for consenting adults. If you see any images, real or simulated, depicting minors engaged in sexual activity within the Site, please report the images to [-snip-]. Include with your report any appropriate evidence, including the date and time. All reports will immediately be investigated and the appropriate action will be taken. We enthusiastically cooperate with any law-enforcement agency investigating child pornography. If you suspect other outside websites are participating in unlawful activities involving minors, please report them to www.asacp.org. Users should implement parental control protections, such as computer hardware, software, or filtering services, which may help users limit minors’ access to harmful material.

Some websites which are linked to the Site are owned and operated by third parties. Because the Site has no control over such sites and resources, you acknowledge and agree that the Site is not responsible for the availability of such external sites or resources, and does not endorse and is not responsible or liable for any content, advertising, services, products, or other materials on or available from such sites or resources.

User shall conform to all applicable laws, statutes, and regulations regarding user’s use of the Site. IF THE SITE DETERMINES THAT YOU INTEND TO USE THIS SITE FOR ANY ILLEGAL PURPOSES, WE EXPRESSLY RESERVE THE RIGHT TO TERMINATE YOUR MEMBERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. WE DO NOT ENDORSE NOR CONDONE ANY ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING PROSTITUTION, ASSIGNATION, SOLICITATION OR LEWDNESS. Users are encouraged to check with local law enforcement authorities to determine if any proposed activities violate legal restrictions.

It is not the responsibilty of the website to play policeman and they have outlined their responsibilities and compliance within US govement laws throughout the entire T&Cs.

  • I looked at several different countries and the responses (which are actually quite boring). Rarely is an age posted and those that were mentioned were all 18 and older. In following the T&Cs of the site, and that they do have Moderators, I do not think comments about underaged sexual encounters would be allowed to remain, thus deleted.
