i will be arriving in turkey (istanbul) in mid may and was wondering how much time i should allocate to the country. hopefully two weeks or less would be enough. also any recommeded routes and attractions would be appreciated. also whats the chances of getting a swim that time of year?

Hello Aussiegeek

That question, about how much time, to spend in a country is impossible to answer. Only u can say, what is right for u. Some people make a plan, and others move on, when they feel like it. It can be an easy soak up the atmosphere type trip, or a make sure every tourist attraction is seen and waste no time trip.

It will likely be warm enough, in May, to swim, unless u are very unlucky, with the weather.

Places to go.
Check out this place to stay. I dont know if it is your type of place, or not.

I reckon you could spend a few months in Turkey, it's a very interesting and varied country.

But 2 weeks should be enough to put a decent itinerary together. Give yourself at least 3 days in Istanbul, 'cause there is plenty to do what with Hagia Sofia, the Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, bazaars, boat trips on the bosphorus and some surprisingly really good food.

I would also go to Cappadocia for definite, takes a day to get to from Istanbul on a bus, also I would see some seaside - Olu Deniz is very lovely if rather packed - and some history - Ephesus is a very well preserved Roman city. Olympus, with the treehouses, is a good place to chill out for a few days.

The sea won't have warmed up enormously in May but it will be pleasant enough for a swim, you'll get plenty of sun.
