Hey mate heres some suggestions,

In the Auckland area:
-spend some time on the 'water front', the bays around mision bay, and of course mission bay. Its a nice place to go on the weekends.
While you're there you could try windsurfing or kayaking form the trailor on the beach.
-If you're into outdoor activities, go to fergs kayaks in okahu bay (in between mission bay and city), and rent a kayak and go to rangitoto and walk to the summit. Really amazing veiws from up there. Or you could take a ferry to Rangitoto.
-You might like to catch a ferry to Waiheke Is. its a really nice place worth visiting.. try go when there is a festival of some type on.
-speaking of events, spend some time on www.eventfinder.co.nz and go to some things on aorund town.
-Places to go for a shop: New market, parnell, ponsonby, queen street.
-The beaches up on the east coast bays (Takapuna/milford beach) are really nice too and worth a visit!
-for a cultural experience go visit flee markets in Manukua on a sunday morning.
-Sporting events! go watch the blues at Eden park!

out of the city, if you have a car -take something to swim in and go check out Bethells beach and the sand dunes there. Piha is cool. And up north Pakiri and Tauwhrinui is amazing too.

Hope that helps!!

Have you been to Waitomo? They have a great Black Water Rafting excursion. You can also hike through Whangarei. And I second Piha - it's beautiful beach! Try the battered crab sticks from the little casse-croute on the beach.

come on son, you can do better than that!

NZ has loads going for it and you really should doit justice, there's lots within easy reach of auckland like coromandel, bay of islands, waikato, rotorua. NZ is only a small country so you can do w/e trips if work is tight on time off.

Check my blog forstuff to do, you will forever regret it if you don't explore some.

yeah definately, if you can get your hands on a car, you must go to coromandel! go to catchedral cove, hahei, matarangi, hot water beach ect.

You'll love it!

You've been there for a year and have only left Auckland to do Bay of Islands???!!!???

Do all the things the prev poster said in the north then go to south island and shock yourself at the massive array of things to do!
