My wife and I are taking a vacation for two weeks in the summer, the 2nd week is already sorted out, meeting up with 4 mates in New York, but was originally planning to spend the 1st week in Miami or Ft Lauderdale, but the additional travelling time and costs, we have decided to holiday nearer New York. Unfortunatly I have no information to beach resorts around either New York or New Jersey (anywhere in the region which is accesible by train from New York (our arrival point)).
Looking for a good beach by day and bars, restaurants, nightlife by night, did look at Atlantic City, but the hotel rates over the weekend double if not more (all the high rollers hitting town I presume!).
Any suggestions would be more than welcome - thanks - Ray UK
Well there are a few options. If you want to go a little farther away, you could rent a car and drive to Ocean City Maryland. It is about a 4 hour drive from New York. They have beautiful beaches, a great nightlife, and spectacular golf courses. If you want stay closer then you can go check out Belmar, Manasquan, Point Pleasant, or Avon. These are just to name a few. Depending on what type of nightlife your into and your age, will help in figuring out what town to go to. Also it depends on your accomodation as well. Do you want to rent a house for the week and be able to walk to the beach? Or do you want to stay in hotels? I would check these locations out and see what appeals to you.
Thanks boreal for the reply, not intending on driving but using trains or bus if pushed) from NY for getting around. Accomodation I'm looking at is either Hotel or B&B, close to beach if possible, nightlife - not into discos or clubbing (those days have gone unfortunatly), but we like bars and beer and not going to bed too early!
No problem.. Then I would check out Belmar or Manasquan. There is a train that leaves from New York Penn station on the New Jersey Transit train system. http://www.njtransit.com/sf_tr_schedules.shtml#
It is on the New Jersey Coast line, and there are stops at Belmar, Manasquan, and Point Pleasant.. All how bars and hotels. Easy transport from New York City.
Cheers boreal, appreciate the advice
