Hello i'm after some advice if anyone can help? i've booked a oneway ticket to New Zealand for the end of May 07, i then hope to go to south america (buying a ticket in NZ) in august for 5-6 months and then come back to NZ then on to Australia. thing is i've not got a RTWT as you can't go back on yourself. has anyone done this before? will it be very expensive buying one way tickets everywhere? i'll have about £6-7000 but i'll be able to work and earn in australia, so really just want to hear if there's anyone out there who has traveled without a set plan or route and just gone where they feel?

Hi Stark,

Ive travelled on one way tickets all the way, and the South America to NZ leg cost about $1300US. So, if you thinking of getting a return to SA from NZ, that will set you back a nice bit of money.

Not to be a dissenting voice, but I have found that ona WHV you really just earn enough to live in the country and save a but (but not a huge amount). That's just my own experience though - I'm not the best saver in the world! ;) You might do a whole lot better.

Have you thought about starting in SA, then head to NZ and then Oz? :)

thanks for getting back samsara

i was going to go straight to SA at first but i met some girls in India in january who are working out in NZ for the ski season so i'm gonna meet up with them for a while. i've already got my ticket too so no going back really.

i might not go back to NZ as i can earn more in OZ, as for SA how long would you say i could last on £4-5000?
