Travel Forums Asia Hoi An or Da Lat??

I'm heading to Vietnam in July, but only for a mere 14 days. I have identified my highlights in the North and South, but now am figuring out the "middle" of Vietnam.
To give myself some more time, I would like to take out either the Nha Trang-Da Lat or Da Nang-Hoi An part of my trip but I am un sure which to take out- or, if I should keep both?
I would only be spending 1-2 nights in either place for the record.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Da Lat = Hills
Nha Trang = Beach

Da Nang = Beach
Hoi An = Old City + Beach

I've been to all the cities with the exception of Da Nang. Based on that I would go the Hoi An/Da Nang route because I had a great time in Hoi An. Da Lat is more of a site seeing city and not so much to do but eat and walk around.

Id go Hoi Ann, its lovely. Try and visit one of the surrounding villages if you can. I paid a guy 300,000 dong ($10) to take me round his village for a day on his bike. He took me for a boat ride with his brother, went fishing, introduced me to his neighbours and took me into his home where his wife cooked me a traditional Vietnamese meal. It was the highlight of my trip to Vietnam. Still got his contact details if you want them.

That's awesome that you mingled with the local like that. Get to see how the live up close.

Lindsey,
I have many photos both both cities in my gallery. I met my GF in DaLat, so I am a bit biased. I love DaLat, but I would still vote Hoi An for you. It is probably a better use of your time. The My Son ruins are worth a trip, take the boat back to Hoi An. More fun and good photo ops.

Another tip. Get up at dawn and go down to the Hoi An docks. You will meet the local residents and very likely get an invite to have tea with a chat. Some may invite you to visit their home. A friend of mine did this in Hoi An and it really made the city special for him. I confess I slept in, but did get to go along to visit the home of his new Vietnamese friend. Good Luck to you.

I fully agree with Hoi an over Dalat (I think I disagreed with Mike on a previous post where he recommended Dalat- Dalat is nice, buut I didn't find it spectacular . Hoi An is a beautiful town- I don't think anywhere else in VN looks like Hoi An- there are great restaurants down by the water, and just about everyone I know leave town buying at least a couple things from the many tailors- You won't be disappointed with HoiAn.
