Hi, am headin off to australia in 2 months! was wondering if anyone can advise me on how much money to bring..am planning on doing it all on a budget, and staying in hostels etc. Im going to be in Australia for 2 months and Thailand for one month. Also, I heard that fruit picking can be done for a few days here and there? Are work visas required??
Any advice greatly appreciated!
hey where abouts in aussie are you travelling.
if your goin on a budget..you could easily do
$40 on food a day.. unless you wanna eat fancy.. n u can pick up some real bargains for hostels.. apartments.. 7 nights $150 or something..
The latest data that I have seen on backpacker spending in Australia shows that the average backpacker spends $A 70 per day approx. A lot depends upon where you stay however. In places like Sydney or Melbourne the cost is likely to be greater - another factor is how much you spend on booze and where you spend it. Places like registered clubs - Surf clubs or sports clubs - are much cheaper than pubs.
Cant help on the fruit picking question. My guess is that a lot of fruit farmers would employ casual backpacker labour even if the law says a work permit is required. Remember, Australia started as a convict colony!!
