when I have read a few posts, I heard about bugs in some backpacker hostels on the east coast.
I have planned to travel from the Gold Coast to Cairns and I will stay in some backpacker hostels. But the infos about bugs scared me.
Can anybody recommend good hostels or warn me about really bad ones?
Thanks a lot!
The part of Australia you are travelling to is primarily tropical, and does have tropical wildlife there, and, unsurprisingly, this includes bugs! They are not such a bad pest, I dont seem to remember them bothering me when I went through Queensland. The scenery far outweighs any problems with bugs I can assure you. I lived in South Australia most of my life where there are brown snakes and redback spiders, but never saw more than 2 snakes and a couple of redbacks in the 30 years I lived there. I guess you just have to expect some form of animal activity wherever you are. Most are in fact better behaved than humans!
You will enjoy Queensland and Australia very much, dont worry about the bugs , just go there!
I would agree about the nasty ones, but if you're terrified of cockroaches, think carefully !
It's warm and humid in Queensland and they love it.
We stayed in a "5 star" hostel in Brisbane and it was full of the little buggers. At least they won't kill you though!
Best bet is to ask as you go about the cleanest places.
Hi the worst thing about bed bugs are the bites, and if you do get bitten it is horrid . . however they are not in every hostel and Simon's advice about asking is a good one. Note though it is not cleanliness which determines whether or not there are bed bugs!! Chat to fellow travellers and staff in hostels which you are already staying in. Don't let it stop you going there!
oh god i stayed in valley verands ini brisbane city and the place is riddles with bed-bugs!its so so disgusting,be sure never to go there
Leos Hostel in Cairns was full of Cockroaches. And my room flooded every time anyone used the shower which was next door. It was cheap but run down and dirty. Horrible hostel. I would totally avoid it.
I have somehow escaped ever being bitten by bedbugs anywhere. Touch Wood......
