My countdown till I leave is on, and in the mean time I was thinking about movies that have inspired me to want to go to certain countries.

What are some of yours???

Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amélie Poulain makes me want to go to France as did French Kiss (with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline).

But the biggest travel inspiration comes from a TV show and not a movie. The Amazing Race makes me want to go all around the world! I sit there, glued to the TV, just marvelling at the countries they go to... I wish Canadians could participate!!!!!!! I'd do it in a heartbeat! For those who don't know what the Amazing Race is all about here's the breakdown: 11 teams of two set out from L.A. and are given money and directions to their next destination, where they will have to go through some interesting activity to get to the next place. So on and so forth around the globe, and, along the way, there are destinations where the team in last place get elminated from the race. Gotta love it!

On the flip side, a movie that has made me NOT want to go places has been City of God (Cidade de Deus) about the slums of Rio de Janeiro... although I must say, I'd still go to Rio, just won't venture into that territory! ...

for me ,,, well if i'm honest there are loads, but one movie that made me want to take go abroad was a russian movie , i think it was called Ivan's Childhood or something like that, there are some amazing camera shots......... it also sparked my interest in photography..... ..
but also 'the mummy' scenery intrigued me so this year i'll go to Egypt....... next year I hope to go to South America........ I saw El Mariachi the other day and well I've got the nosey bug again ...

I'd have to agree with travelover about the Amazing Race...my husband and I have applied for it twice, but have never been called. Oh well, maybe next time!

A recent movie that I saw that really makes me want to travel again is "Lost in Translation". The way that it was filmed was amazing, she captures all the little nuances about being in a foreign place, all the things only an outsider would notice. It completely reminded me of having no plans and just exploring a new place and meeting new people.

under the tuscan sun makes me want to go to tuscany

also home alone 2 always makes me want to go back to new york also with you've got mail (pretty much any movie which has new york in it!)

the amazing race rocks!! it was on here though at about 11:30pm at night!! :( which meant staying up late to watch it!

the thing that makes me want to travel the most is going to the airport, when you pick someone up you think you are going somewhere but you aren't and get all sad!

I'm a real fan of old movies and saw Mogambo many years ago. Maybe it was Clarke Gable, but I got the urge to go to Kenya and spent 2 glorious months there with some friends. We went to Nairobi, then thru to the coast via Tsavo game park - before it became all touristy, and then on to Mombassa where we stayed along the coastline in a sort of mud hut affair right on the beach.. Happy days!

I think the New Zealand scenery in Lord of the Rings was fabulous. I loved seeing the beaches and islands of Thailand in the Beach. I also find seeing wildlife documentaries or documentaries on ancient civilisations make me want to see the ruins of the Mayans or go on safari in Kenya. I also enjoyed the Amazing Race. And I know that 'Twister' isn't very high brow but I would love to see a Tornado up-close!

Have to agree with you about the scenery on LOTR Quercus - totally stunning and one day soon, I will be able to see it in person I hope. A friend of mine has just come back from touring the Rockies - and listening to her stories, I must admit, it's on my list!
