This is what my boyfriend says, about Einstürzende Neubauten
80ies band. "Industrial". I suppose the link with Metal is there through the gothic scene, but I personally wouldn't consider them metal.
By all means, but your boyfriend is quite mis-informed about the Einstürzende Neubauten, there last record of them is just a few years old (Perpetuum Mobile), and they have always continued making records, so it's not just an 80ies band. I saw them in Düsseldorf in 2004 or early 2005, and it's one of the best gigs I have ever seen. They didn't made a lot of albums at the end of the 90's and early 00's, as the singer Blixa Bargeld was very busy with his work for Nick Cave.
The Gothic connection I don't see it.
I think you should give them a chance (it's German Culture)
