travelover has indicated that this thread is about Costa Rica

I was just wondering when the best times to go to Central America would be. I want to go to Costa Rica and Panama mainly. I was thinking of October or November... but I have no idea what would be best. I would hate to get there during hurricane season!!! :(

Thanks! Tam

The best time for weather in both CR and Panama is December to April - this is the dry season with little rain, lower humidity but it is usually the most crowded - especially in CR.
November is normally one of the wettest months as this is the transition from "green" to dry...
A bit earlier - August/September is usually okay - probably some rain each day but not for more than an hour or two and then sunny in between. It does depend on where you are going - some variations between Caribbean coast and Pacific coast and in CR the interior.
Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks for the answers Andrew! Another question... how feasible is it for a single girl to go to Costa Rica and Panama? I mean should I have some companions with me, or is it safe to go about it alone?

I met a number of solo women travellers down in Costa Rica. They didn't mention any problems travelling solo. Actually, you probably won't need to travel solo for long. There are numerous people travelling around in Costa Rica, and you can hook up and travel with them for a while.

I stayed at the Hotel Aranjuez in San Jose. It's a great place to meet fellow travellers before you start your journey. Hotel Aranjuez can be found at Calle 19, Ave 11-13, San Jose, Costa Rica, Phone: 256-1825. Really nice places for reasonable rates ($30 - $40 / night - not sure about singles rates). They take reservations, but if you have never stayed there before you need to show up before 3 pm or they might give your room away. Begging does not help (trust me, I tried).
