1 - how can anna smith tell that you can be sure with pepper spray

2- Indian people are for sure better than other people

3- It's only a web marketing campaign

4- Everyone can go india and if you use your mind and you have a little beat of experience you'll never have problems

Anasmith,

Really sad to note that you had a terrible incident with a room mate...where? in India? Not clear from your msg. Again it was not clear from your msg.Anyway you were keeping pepper spray after this incident. Good for you.
Yes it was very unfortunate that a swiss embassy staff had a horrible experience.Every Indian "tout" condemned this incident and government also took action.Such things as rape , robbery, killings do happen in almost every country including yours. Yes agreed that you wanted to cancel your trip but could not. But you have not explained if YOU, as a single woman, had any problem but instead you have made a sweeping remark of general in nature.
It is sad to note that a lady of your age using words such as "touts'"..Ofcourse when any one says anything , good or bad about a country, people of that country bound to reply.Hence you have received replies from citizens of India. This forum has people of ALL nationalities, just not Indians only, hope you are aware of this. One is not civilized when a person attacks anyone personally or insulting citizens of a country. Everyone is here to assist travellers and make them to have a relaxed holiday and a nice feeling.

Aman and others were right - her posts were simply to promote her website. Sorry to not have pounced on it earlier - both Sam and I are on the road at the moment and a few of these have slipped through recently. As for the rest of the topic goes, try to keep it nice people, most are trying to post in a helpful spirit (minus anasmith that is ;))

Cheers, Peter

Hmm, and those of you who are regular visitors here; I would encourage you not to take those various insults personally. I dare say they were mostly posted by 'clones' of ana herself just to bolster her argument. We do value your continual contribution here and appreciate the efforts you make to inform other people in an honest manner about your country.

Cheers, Peter

hey all,

Just saw this thread for the first time and decided to throw in my own 2 cents.

I haven't personally been to India, but I know a lot of Indian ex-pats who are close friends of mine in Malaysia. I have also spent a fair amount of time in SE Asia in places such as Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Phillipines. I've honestly never felt safer in a "city" atmosphere than I did while in Kuala Lumpur, which both "feels" safer and is statistically safer than my own home of NYC (which I also love).

Continuing on this note a very close friend of mine named Gobiraj (he is Indian as you maybe can tell by his name) has a beautiful relationship with his wife and children, and the other Indian people I know are also great folks too.

All in all, I just want to agree with Peter on this one. To all of TP's wonderful members from India, please know that the opinions of Anasmith don't reflect the opinions of very many TPers. We love having you here on Travellerspoint and appreciate your contributions to this site.

I dream about coming out to India, because from the glimpse of Indian society I have had in Malaysia helps me to see that it is a beautiful and vibrant culture full of life and an exotic contrast to the "western" way of life. (read: The Batu Caves in KL)

Its so sad, that ana thinks bad about Indian men. My father and my brother are the most wonderful Indian men on earth. My father is the most faithful man my mother can have. He is pure of heart and a good person. I'm sure this does not just apply to the men in my family. There are many great Indian men out there. Every country has men who r not so good and those who r very sincere. So ana please would u lay off on Indian men!! Plus the safest place u could be in is India. Indians are so hospitable, polite and genorous, although it is important that we use our common sense. We should not stereotype and categorize people. I hope everyone would come to India, and see it for themselves. Well, I'm not being biased but its true. Plus there are many other countries that have very sweet, and generous people.

I just came across this site n could not resist putting my 2 cents in - it is very amusing to me how us Indians are trying to convince this ana whatever that we are good, decent and honourable people. Does it really matter what this one woman on the planet thinks of Indians - do u think if an Indian had a bad time in NYC some American will be sitting in his appartment thinking "why oh why didn't this Indian like America ... PLEASE GOD WHY?" lol.

This is life - u meet some good people and some not so good people.

P.S.: The person Nitish needs help if he thinks that by blaming the victim India can clear it's conscience. The men have to be arrested and in my view hanged plus people like Nitish, who think all foreign women are thrash, should stop using the net and broadcasting their narrow-minded view of the world.
