Hi all!

There seems to be millions of B&B/Guesthouses in Rome available. Please - does anyone have advice as to a great place they've stayed, but not too expensive. We're looking for a private room, but don't mind a shared bathroom too much.

All the options seem to be based at the Termini station, but how dodgey is this area - or is it ok to be based there?

Any advice.. welcomed!

The area ceased to be really dodgy a long time ago... still I'd rather be somewhere else, but that is utterly unaffordable.

If you find smt, could you please post back your experiences? I've been struggling to find a good place as well, ever since my 'regular' hostel went out of business :)

Hi Kim,

You can check for accommodations in Rome on this site :
I used the site last year and found an affordable hotel in Rome, which was located near the train station, but was very clean and comfortable.

I only had to stay 1 night before my departure and the hotel served its purpose. I reserved the room for 1 person, but had 2 beds and a private, clean, renovated bathroom. The room was a bit small, but I didn't spend much time in it.

The area is not the nicest in the city, but I didn't feel uncomfortable walking around. On my last day in the city, I came back to the hotel by myself after 11 pm and left the hotel at 5am, without any trouble.

The hotel's name was Ascot.

Hope you have a great trip ! :-)

Monika :)

try couchsurfing - free accommodation and a great way to meet some very cool people (local)

I found a place to stay via Cross Pollinate, which a TP member recommended last year. Our appartment wasn't in the best area (don't stay near the Termini unless it's on a big street or at the Beehive hostel), but it was inexpensive and near transportation.
