My boyfriend and I will be in Halong/Hanoi for 3 days and would really love to do a 2 day 1 night cruise in Halong Bay...
Any suggestions of a boat to take/or not to take? How much it should cost? What to expect? Keep in mind we are on a slight budget, so nothing to extravagant is necessary!
Most hotels and tourist places will sell tours to Halong Bay. I went with Sinh Cafe (they are located on Hang Bac (No 48 I think). They were fine. The 2 day and 1 night tour was about $30USD and was really worth it.
Also Handspan. 80 Ma May St. (tel. 04/962-0446; fax 04/926-0445; www.handspan.com (located in the Tamarind which is a great place to eat as well).
There are a lot of Tour Operators in Hanoi, in most of the streets within the city. Do not book your tours from the Internet, they are very expensive.
Halong Bay is worth visiting, the scenery is very fantastic.
Enjoy your holiday.
exactly...do not book online. u will end up finding yourself pay twice as much as other is paying.
Shop around in HaNoi and get the best price. Do not worry about the boat and the other crap they tell you about to inflate the price. Once you get to the dock area in HaLong, it looks like a rugby scrum. If one operator does not have enough passengers, they combine you with another group. The 1 day people go one direction, the 2 day people another and the 3 day group gets shuttled another direction. The Viets work it out and we get herded to the right boat, I think. It is a madhouse, but it all works out. Go with the cheapest quote you get in HaNoi. I have HaLong Bay photos in my gallery. Good Luck.
I was in Halong Bay a couple months ago and didn't quite find it as chaotic as Mike describes- But I would agree definitely book a tour from Hanoi- They will take care of everything- I did the 3 day trip and we all stayed together and got on 1 boat ( not exactly the picture Mike painted) . Our group was together for the whole time and had a great trip. You certainly can get a pretty cheap tour in Hanoi.
I unfortunately do not have any experience with Halong Bay, but I did want to say that I like your username. But I do have to tell you this if you are abroad and don't have access to NHL games; the Avs are gonna knock'em out of the race (pray, pray). We're breathing down their necks!
Good luck have fun!
I did a 3 day 2 night cruise on Halong Bay where one night was on Cat Ba island. There was not much to do there, and I would recommend not going on the tours that have a stop on the island, as just sailing around is much better.
