I'll stay in Istambul for a couple of days in may.

What I really need to know is, are there some good, cheap travelbooks to buy? They don't have to be original ore first hand but up do date. Special shops ore makets to finde stuff like that?

If you have other advice, I'm happy for all good ideas....

thx
Pascal

Hi Pascal,

I cannot recommend you any specific travel book for İstanbul. However I am from İstanbul (correct spelling is like that). If you have any question, I will try to answer for you.

Hi mate. To be honest, in my opinion if you only have a couple of days to spend there then it is pointless spending money to buy a book. I Went there last year and did a little research on the net and I visited all the major tourist attractions...

oh and btw, print off some useful phrases (also from the net)as it wil get you very far in IStanbul.

Enjoy, it is a beautiful city!

I have some useful details which I can forward to you if you want me to...

I'm leaving for Europe in mid-April, I will be visiting Istanbul for 5 days. I have a cell-phone that will work internationally (I generally swap sim cards), but I understand that phone will need to be registered in Turkey. Am I correct? Is there any legal way around this?

Here in Switzerland the books are expensive, I was in Bangkok befor and there you'll find books for less than a third of the real price, ok they are used or copyed but I don't care...

Pascal,

You can find tarvel guides in İstanbul for both İstanbul and Iran. I think they are cheaper. Check this adress http://www.dr.com.tr/FO/ProductList.aspx?Group_No=00869
This address is belong to a music and book store in Turkey. You can see the books and also the prices. The prices are smilar at other bookstores here. Also for İstanbul you can get some cheaper and nice books from the bookstores of Ministry of Culture and Tourism. One is found in İstiklal Street in Beyoğlu (in İstanbul). I am sure you will visit İstiklal Street when you arrive here :)

P.S. In İstiklal Street there are lots of stores selling used books. However most of them are in Turkish.

hey, that's only if you want to use a Turkish gsm operator with your mobile phone which you've purchased from any other country.

this is to prevent illegal import of cell phones from abroad. you can use your foreign gsm oparators in roaming service no need to register your phone.

and Gtrortter, I've listed all major attractions in here,

have a nice holiday
