no "Afrikaans" is only spoken in a small part. south-Africa has different dialects and languages. But English is spoken everywhere. so it depends in which language/dialect u want to have it translated.
I now beleive I wanted it translated into Afrikaan.
Anyone help? It's a simple letter, a reference from a school (English to Afrikaan).
I have to disagree, because Afrikaans is spoken in a lot of areas.
It depends on the province, but usually you find English, Afrikaans plus the 'Black language' (Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho etc. depending on the province)
What type of letter do u need translated and what for? For authorities English (or Afrikaans) should be fine.
If you need it in Afrikaans my husband will be able to help you.
just sent u a personal message...
My boyfriend(Dutch) says he can understand Afrikaan, but he would not know it well enough, to translate something into it.

Hi Paul
You sent me a personal message about the language in South Africa, most people speak and read English, however there are 11 official languages in South Africa, Afrikaans been one of them.
I do not quiet understand why you would like to have something translated into Afrikaans unless you know that the person it is going to be addressed to can speak and read Afrikaans, which not everyone is able to do.
On the internet there are several sites that you can type your document in english and it will translate the document into what ever language you want. One program to look at is www.babelfish.com
Hope this helps

André
Since the abolition of apartheid in 1994, South Africa has worked hard at becoming a nation, where blacks and whites live alongside each other as equals. While the history of apartheid has left South Africa with serious poverty and high crime rates, South Africa is rearing its head as one of Africa's prime destinations.
