the worst probably Amsterdam (its so HUGE) or the shitty ryanair airports all over the place and aren't that close to the actual cities
Well, I had no problems with Schiphol when I went to Holland.
I wouldn't say Heathrow was the worst, but it'd take quite a bit for me to set foot there again.
Best - Sydney.
Worst - Have yet to find one, all airports are stressful, but none have been dirty, shabby or poorly run.
Worst - CARACAS, VENEZUELA. ugh. what a nightmare. it was mostly the people working there though, not the actual airport. my friend went there a separate time from me, and she has the same feelings.
And sadly, I must nominate my hometown airport for second worst. Edmonton, Canada. besides the newly renovated part, its kind of a hole. worse than i've seen in smaller and poorer places.
Best - Victoria, Canada. Houston, Texas.
The Best airport I've ever been was Andoya in the North of Norway. It's so deserted and there's nothing around for miles except sea and mountains. Tottaly lush!!
Best is either Dubai (clean, lots to do, plenty of places to hang out, Irish Village Pub is always full of Characters) or Noumea, in New Caledonia, really small airport, you can smoek immediatley! Oh the separate First and Business Class Terminal at Doha airport it amazing too! Not like an airport, but a swanky hotel lobby!
Worst, well there are a few...
Cairo, bad bad bad, no where to sit, dissorganized staff, smells, smoking area foul (even for a smoker), long unorganized queues, at check in, immigration and to get to the departure gates.
New Airport in Bangkok, lounges are miles away from the gates, long long walks, unfriendly and staff that do not know what they are doing!
Colombo, just as it does not really work! Lounge really bad too, and full of staffs mates not premium passengers.
Chicago, especially if you are changing airlines, not too bad if you are sticking to the same airline, AA-AA etc, but then crap when coming in off an international flight, clearing customs then waiting to get back airside, missed connection.
JFK really bad immigration lines - bad when coming in off international and transiting to local flight (OK if you are American I guess).
LHR also crap early in the morning in terminal 3, trying to get to another terminal - better if you are a European and skip the long immigration lines (I guess this is where europeans get their own back on americans).
The worst for me, Sydney's airport. Im sure there are alot worse regional airports but this is a huge international arrival point airport for a capital city in a rich country! There is nothing there, normally there are lots of shops and bars/restaurants. I think there was one crappy bar and a crappy pizza takeaway place there, also hardly any shops, duty-free or anything else really. Pretty shocking after being in Hong Kong, Singapore, Heathrow, Bangkoks new one etc.
Has anyone been to Barajas airport in Madrid? I have to stay there overnight next month. Think it's okay?
Best Airport - KLIA (KUALA LUMPUR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT)
Worst Airport - LCCT (LOW COST CARRIER TERMINAL in Malaysia)
Brisbane International Airport. Its too dirty.
I'm sort of biased as it's my hometown by SFO (San Francisco International) has a very nice international terminal, very spacious and clean with some good food stalls from local restaurants. Though it does feel like you're entering a facist country when you get back to customs...very, very quiet, windowless and signs everywhere saying things like Only YOU Can Keep Foot-and-Mouth Disease Out of America! and We're Working to Protect YOU!
Very pleased to see all the glowing reports of Singapore Changi as I'll be staying over there this summer!
Worst? Being from NorCal it's kind of my duty to hate anything SoCal (just kidding). But I have to say that LAX is crap. So is Charles de Gaulle, who designed that monstrosity?

LOL. Someone called Paul Andreu. He's apparently a renowned French architect (still alive!).
According to Wikipedia:
Paul Andreu (born July 10, 1938 in Caudéran / Gironde) is a renowned French architect. He is best known for having planned numerous airports worldwide, notably Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Manila), Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Jakarta), Abu Dhabi International Airport, Dubai International Airport, Cairo International Airport, Brunei International Airport, Charles de Gaulle International Airport (Paris) and Paris - Orly Airport) ... He has been in charge of planning and constructing Charles de Gaulle International Airport (Roissy) in Paris since 1967.
