But I have to say that LAX is crap. So is Charles de Gaulle, who designed that monstrosity?

LOL. Someone called Paul Andreu. He's apparently a renowned French architect (still alive!).

According to Wikipedia:

Paul Andreu (born July 10, 1938 in Caudéran / Gironde) is a renowned French architect. He is best known for having planned numerous airports worldwide, notably Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Manila), Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Jakarta), Abu Dhabi International Airport, Dubai International Airport, Cairo International Airport, Brunei International Airport, Charles de Gaulle International Airport (Paris) and Paris - Orly Airport) ... He has been in charge of planning and constructing Charles de Gaulle International Airport (Roissy) in Paris since 1967.

..just what can i say...take him away and have him hanged ?...

Has anyone been to Barajas airport in Madrid? I have to stay there overnight next month. Think it's okay?

You should be OK, assuming your bags are checked in already! I got delayed with IBERIA once and had an overnight stop there, i just went to the IBERIA counter, showed them my tickets, asked if was correct that I had to stay in the airport and they put me up in a hotel accross the road FOC. Hotel was really bad, but hey better than a stone floor! Just go to an IBERIA desk and tell them them that yuo were promised a Hotel room and where do yuo collect teh voucher (but dotn tell them I said it)...

I never bothered about airports. its only for checking in and out, so who cares. but dubai international airport is a palace, it really is pure richness. worst is probably mehrabad international airport in tehran, its nothing much really.

I haven't been to many airports, but I kinda like Sydney Int'l Airpot. The staff was quite friendly to me as I had to camp overnight 3 days on standby and were helpful retrieving my luggage It's the first airport that I've been to that has showers. I think that's pretty cool. I do also like Vancouver Int'l Airport. I'm in Vancouver every year. My favourite getaway city

I believe, I was squatting around section H, Emirates Check-in Counter. I was hoping I could get a seat waiting standy. Unfortunately, I don't have friends or family in Sydney to stay with.

WOW, how bizzare, I have been on Standby many times on EK and nevr found it a problem. EK have about 3 flights a day our of SYD now, so you mean there was not a seat on 9 flights? Even up to Singapore, where there are even more connections from Brisbane, Jakarta and Melbourne. Poor you!
