hi,
We are planning a trip to Greece and Turkey this May and really need some help on flights, transportation and accomodation. Budget minded
advice and suggestions needed on flying from Vancouver,Canada to Greece, maybe to Athens in early May. Fly to London, and then to Athens, is this possible?? Or to another hub and then to Greece. Carriers??
Also we want to see some of Greece and Turkey however we shall have only three weeks. Are there hotels with kitchenettes that are not pricey?? Would a hotel room sleep 4?
Is renting an apartment in Athens for a week an option? Websites?
Any itinerary suggestions would be most welcome as we know so little of both Greece and Athens.

I'd suggest altering the heading from 'family planning trip' to 'planning trip with family'. ;)
No offence meant but readers are liable to misinterpret the contents of your post seeing just the heading.

I cant help with the original post but both greece and turkey are great countries and i am sure you will have a great time. Make sure you get to the greek islands though, not just the mainland.

Hi,

I am also travelling to Greece and Turkey but this month (April) and I have spent months on trying to get information together.

Just one suggestion from me - I accidently found this site whilst sending myself totally nuts on the internet and I have truly found it to be extremely helpful.

Here is hoping it will be of assistance to you as well.

Good luck with your trip - hope you have a great time.

With regards

Kathryn

Flights to Turkey are cheapest from Germany. It might be worth it to fly to Germany and then grab a budget flight first going to Greece and then flying back to Germany from Istanbul.

A great site for Turkey is http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com

I also like easycruise for Island hopping within Greece.

Turkey is ok and relatively inexpensive for a family, especially when you are travelling inside the country (Cappadocia). (Hotels in the Antalya region should be booked as a package thruogh a travel agency in Germany though.) I highly recommend getting a good guidebook (like Lonely Planet) for Turkey, otherwise you are lost. Online info is a bit difficult to find.

Check this site : www.easyjet.com

It is a budget but reliable carrier, but the problem is that it has some weird routes. For example if you want to come to Athens from London, you have to fly from the Gatwick Airport and not Heathrow. But of course from Heathrow you can take both British Airways or Olympic Airways (the Greek one) to come directly to Athens. Also have in mind that you can fly to Athens with direct flights from New York, Toronto and Montreal with Olympic Airways. Of course it is not near to Vancouver at all, but I mention it just to take this option into consideration too. I don`t really know what is cheaper for you!
