i've heard that digital cameras dont do well in really humid climates and can sometimes spell their end... is this true? has anyone found this? and... i'm debating on wether taking my side-bag (can hold a fair bit) or a simple daypack to SEA. my reasoning being i may not get robbed as easy if i take the side bag.... opinions?

I don't see a problem with having it with you at sea...in an extreme environment, such as a rain forest, it may cause problems due to moisture forming on the optics and electronics. Your best answer might be to send an email to the manufacturer of your camera and ask them, giving them your camera type and exactly where you will be.
Hope this offers some help.
Almost everybody uses digital camera here. No problem with the high humidity that we are experiencing. The only thing you have to worry about your camera is the rain. If you come during the monsoon season, just watch out for the rain that could start all of a sudden eventhough the sun was shining brightly half an hour ago.
