I'm currently travelling down through central america and have a flight to lima on 26th April, so was hoping to go to cusco and do the 4 day hike up the inca trail probably a couple of weeks after this ie halfway through May. Have read that you need to book the trail at least 3 months in advance! Was just wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to either book with a company now (about a month in advance) or even just pitch up in cuso and book it there?? Also is it maybe cheaper to do this??
Would be grateful for any help.
It is recommened that you book far in advance but if you are a solo traveler and you were planning on going to Cuzco anyway, you may not have a problem. There are so many tour companies that if you are patient and talk with a few of them, they may be able to squeeze you in. I would try emailing several of them before you guy and see if they have any room. They may need some time to process paperwork. Check out SAS as a company, they were great. All the companies are located right in the main Plaza.
Dont if it helps but when I went with 3 friends and we booked it a couple of days before hand and when we got there the rest of the people in our group had done the same. Also the hostel at the time was full of people who were booking it the day before.
For the time of year you are going, I would say book as soon as possible.
I rocked up and booked on the spot but that was low season (last week of January). From what I hear, any time after that you need to reserving ahead of time to guarantee a place.
I recommend United Mice
