So how did it go? Is he as cool as he sounds like in his emails, or a <fill-in-the-blank> ?

Anyway, I hope you had a great time meeting him as much as I did meeting 13 TP members over the past 2 years. I've been lucky so far, none of them freak. Wait, maybe there was one... (yeah, you know who you are!)

Rick? Is he one of the more frequent visitors to this site?

Ok guys, here's the story...

Tue night we went to pick up Rick. He contacted me via TP over a year ago, when we were still living in NZ. We have been in touch since and tried as much as we could to get him sorted for his 4month stay here in Austria.

I had made a welcome sign (as requested by my husband, but the deal was, that he had to hold it), but I mean, he was 1.90cm tall and Asian, so there was no chance to miss him. ;)

After we dropped him off at his accomodation we went out for a drink. Unfortunately Charles and I had to work on Wed, so we just stayed until 11pm. But you wouldn't believe it, how much fun we had. He's such a cool and fun guy and there were lots of stories to tell.

Yesterday afternoon my husband already went for a training ride with him (he's here to do the Ironman Austria) and to show him around.
He was so happy to finally have someone, who's on the same level (physical wise and personally) and I'm also happy, that everything worked out so well.

the downside? it always seems to be the nicest people, who are not staying permanently and will leave again at some stage...:(
I don't know, but I (still) sometimes find it hard, to make friends here and connect with people.

Anyway, as I said, things couldn't have gone better. I'm hoping that we'll have our own place soon (as we r living with Mum and Dad, my brother and his fiance'- it's getting a bit small in this house ), because then I wanna sign up on this 'couchsurfing' webpage, where you lend your couch to people from all around the world for a few nights.
We just love to do this kind of thing. Although the first time, we had a TP member staying at our house in NZ (who I didn't know at all!!!) was a bit scary first

Lookin forward to visiting Rick in San Francisco in the future

I don't think he uses this site so often these days... would have to ask him, but I don't think I have noticed him posting a lot lately...

what was his Nickname again...?

So glad to hear it went well! I'm looking forward to meeting some of the TP crew at some point in the near future

but I (still) sometimes find it hard, to make friends here and connect with people.

I can certainly relate to that... it's always hard to connect after everything you experience travelling - sometimes it's only those who've done it themselves who understand....

Same here. I don't see myself having any problems connection with people if they're "well traveled" or not. It's just the way I am I suppose. Man, I wonder what his nick is. It's going to bother me for a while haha
