Hi all, what's the best way to get from Perth to Cairns?
I want to drive some of the east coast but cannot get a flight out of Broome, that means carrying on to Darwin and getting a flight from there.
When I am that far though I should probably go the rest of the way, anybody got any ideas?
im confused if you leaving perth... why would you go to broome or darwin>?
how come you dont fly perth - brisbane.. then drive brisbane cairns?
I am heading for Cairns as I am going to drive the east coast, however, I also want to drive in WA.
Not sure whether to drive across to Cairns via Alice Springs or head up and around via Darwin or drive a bit and then get a flight.
Has anybody got any advice on any good routes there?
It'd all depend on the amount of time you have got. If you've only got a couple of weeks, forget about driving all the way, because even if you spent almost your entire time on the road, you'd probably only just make it and what a waste of time and petrol that'd be when you could hardly stop at all to see or do anything but eat, drink, go to the toilet and sleep. If you've got 1 1/2-2 months minimum (including the time to do the East Coast) from when you are in Broome, then it would definitely be worth driving through Western Australia across to Northern Territory and then across in to Queensland/Cairns but it is a bloody long way.
If you are restricted somewhat in time about the best you could hope for is to do something like drive up to Broome, fly to Sydney, Brisbane or Darwin and then get another flight to Cairns.
Thanks for the reply,
I will have 6 weeks to do the whole lot, would 3 weeks take you from Perth to Cairns driving comfortably?
What is the best route to do, across through Alice or around via Darwin?
Anyone who has experience of this, your advice would be appreciated.
