I am currently in sydney and need advice for travelling around oz. I really want to do everything (within reason). Up the east coast to Cairns, ayers rock, western aus and back to melbourne and sydney. I need advice on the cheapest travel for a lone female. I thought about premier and then fly from the centre to the west and grey hound. Can anyone help???
Hi Vixen. Glad to see you like Darwin because I spent 30 plus years there. Anyway to answer your question I think you need to go by Greyhound up to Queensland and perhaps also to Cairns although there may be rail to Cairns from Brisbane. Do not travel alone as in hitchhiking. It is just not worth it. I would try and get a flight then from Cairns to Alice Springs or if there is one direct to Ayers Rock all the better. There are Japanese flights that fly into Australia just to see Ayers Rock so you might like up JAL airlines to see if they also touchdown in other parts of Australia on the way. Now from Ayers Rock you need to get back to Alice Springs and then decide whether to fly up to Darwin and there go by plane or bus to Perth. From Perth get a bus (long trip) over to Victoria. Trust you still have some money to do all of this.
I've been looking a bit into the whole circuit thing myself. So far, I think I'm going to be taking greyhound up the coast to Cairns (stopping along the way of course) or maybe Ozexperience if I wont have to leave my backpack behind, then I'll be hitching a flight to either Darwin or Adelaide, and hooking up with a "Best of the West" Greyhound pass. That will take you from Adelaide or Darwin down to Uluru, and from there you can go back up to Darwin and start the West coast part of the trip.
Hope it helps!
Thanks for your help. I am looking at them different options, hopefully it will all form together nicely...
