Please forgive my stupidity but I was wondering if their is any security risk for downloading my photo's onto TP, eg contracting a virus, someone hacking into my computer etc?
Are the photos viewed on TP stored on my computer?

Putting your photos onto travellerspoint (uploading) is completely safe. You had the photos already, and you're merely sending travellerspoint a copy. It's your browser accessing your harddisk to do that - no avenue for the website to do anything.
Viewing photos of other people on travellerspoint (or any any website) is 99.99% safe. There've lately been a few vulnerabilities in image formats which could allow malicious users to upload a 'photo' that might - when viewed with an insecure browser (such as an old version of IE which isn't being updated with patches) - compromise the security of your computer. This is less likely to happen at travellerspoint than on most any other photo uploading site on the internet, as we actually do some tests during upload to make certain the file that was uploaded is a real image - but it's still not completely impossible. As always, in the end it's your own responsibility to keep yourself safe, by using a good virus scanner and keeping your system up to date (and ideally using a browser which isn't Internet Explorer).

Just to add that once you upload the files to Travellerspoint, they are stored on Travellerspoint's servers, so your computer isn't needed to display them. :)
