Dear Rach,
I think a very good choice is the island of Crete. Its a big island with great small traditional villages, lovely towns like Rethymno and Chania, anchient sites like Knossos,Zakros,Faistos superp beaches like Balos,Falassarna,Elafonisos, very good food and wines, interesting people and much more.
Rates and prices are cheap enough.
From Heraklio you can try Santorini, two hours trip and then to Mykonos and if you have time there are more small islands for you.
Please feel free to ask me if you want more info.
regards
kostas

Dear Rach,

My suggestion would be to make sure you visit Corfu. I think it is one of the most green islands of Greece. You can visit lots of places there like an old palace and a nonnery. I´ve been to both Crete and Corfu, I liked Corfu the best also because it´s smaller so you can see lots of it by scooter.

have fun !

Hiya.

I found this site www.travelstops.net that has some really good independent reviews about some of the Greek Islands. Have a look.;)

Hello
What do you really like to find in an island? Lot of young people, bars, cafes, tavernas, night clubs, and endless lines of umbrellas? Try Santorini (expensive but unique, volcano island, like Honoloulou with white houses and blue windows), Paros( fantastic sundy beaches), Mykonos(like Santorini but without volcano).
Less of these, but same beauty, try the other Kyklades.( No trees!).
Like green Islands? Go to Kerkyra, Ithaka, and other nearby islands.
In Kreta you will find allmost everything of the above. Sporades is also a good choise. Skopelos and Skiathos combines in a way what you can find in Santorini and Kerkyra but no volcano view.
Prices its up to your wallet. From 30 euros to... for a double bed room.
There are also campings.
Yours Polykarpos

Hi Rach,

It's really difficult to give good advice as we don't know what kind of holiday you'd like ;) I went to Greece 3 years ago for 3 weeks, it was me, my boyfriend and my son. We did Syros, Antiparos, Sifnos, Serifos and Kythnos. The best for us was definitely Sifnos, but I can't really say that you'll find a lot of partying going on any of these places so if you want discos and night life I suppose you'll be better off with Crete and Corfu but for a quiet holiday I'd probably prefer Syros, Serifos and Sifnos.

As for prices, it's still reasonably cheap in Greece from what I've heard, at least compared to Danish prices . I've been using a few web pages for searches on info on Greece: http://www.islandstrolling.com/ (some of it in English, it's a Norwegian guy who's set up this website, non profit as I know and only because he and his family go to Greece every year and just loves it); another is: http://www.athensguide.com/, this comprises info on lots of the Greek islands as well. It's been set up by an American guy and is mainly non-profit but he does recommend certain taxi companies etc. etc but it's not that obvious. Try and have a look it has lots of very good information. Finally here's a Swedish website, also non-profit and run by a guy who loves Greece and goes sometimes several times a year: http://www.kalimera.nu/. Most of it is in Swedish but there is some info in English so you might find something you can use.

Hope some of this will be of help to you.
