Get bus 204 to Ginkakuji-michi station and see the Ginkakuji Temple. That was a really nice place to visit but not the nicest one in my view. If you could only see one temple (which I sure hope isn't the case), well you should get bus 204 to Kinkakuji-michi station and see the Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavillion). That is probably the nicest thing I saw in all the places I went to in Japan. If you are in to your photography you'll have a great time there especially if it is a sunny day with little wind.

Other than temples their is not a great deal to see in my personal opinion, but their are just so many of them and they are so spread out. If you do like temples, you should definitely take a daytrip to Nara when you are at Kyoto. That is a very beautiful place.

In case you don't already know, if you plan on doing more than a couple of cities in Japan, you should get the JR Pass for using the Rail network in Japan. It has to be purchased before you go to Japan though.

Have a great trip.

The Golden Pavillion is in Kyoto and also the Geisha district - go at night as thats when all the geiko's and meiko's are out ;)

A rail pass is a definite if you are travelling but there are different ones covering different areas so make sure you get the right one.. or ask :)

If you have time I would also recommend a trip to Mount Koya (you need to go back to Oasaka first) and spend a couple of days staying in a temple with monks.
