Hello Everyone,

This is kind of long but please read.

I just started a second job at the mall b]DEB[/b] stores .. Teenage clothing store] as a sales associate ... I'm only staying there until July because I just need this second job to get some extra cash for my trip this august.

So I go in and the manager seems nice [woman around 25] she's like the head manager so I was alright cool. I go in for my first day of work ... okay I get litteraly two seconds of job training on the cash register [totally different kind than my other job as a pharmacy cashier[/b (< ERROR: the link title is too long!) then she leaves to do something else, thankfully I am a pretty fast learner so I didn't mess up. Then I stand behind the counter ... because you know that's what cashiers [b]USUALLY do .. at least at my other job you do. She like says "You NEVER stand behind the counter, you have to "styleize" the clothing in your area. Alrighty ... so of course I have never really been in this store before so I don't know what every piece of clothing looks like or where it goes. The girl in the back near the dressing rooms is bringing up clothing people left in the dressing rooms by the armload [fucking people put your own fucking stuff away!!] so it takes me a while to find where the clothing goes, my lovely [sarcastic] fellow co-worker [younger BTW] thinks I should know where things go in 2.5 seconds and starts giving me additude while telling me where things go and at the same time shes's saying "you haven't faced all the hangers one way and you haven't faced all the tags one way yer" ... O_o .. okay I need time it's my 1st day!! This goes on for the while 4 hours [short shift, but it seemed like ENERNITY] at 9:30 the store closes and we start to clean up, I go through all the clothing sort it as best I can and change all the hangers and tags ... she says "you have to face all the hangers one way, please listen!" ... since ONE was the wrong way she says "the manager comes in an hour early tommorrow morning to make sure everything is perfect, if it's not she'll yell at me and you" ... ok I know you might think this is contructive critizism but to me it sounds like f-ing harrassment. I have a back condition and I stopped working for a minute to rub my back and feet ... the co-worker says "don't stop working you have to be working all the time" .. O_o ... and since I dislike saying hi to people I just smiled at them as a welcome and she flipps at me as well. So I start saying hi but I can't say hi to everyone AND styleize then she says "please look up at people as you work" .. okay I'm supposed to be "styleizing" clothing WTF do you think I am?! she yells at me when I didn't say hi to ONE person. Then at the end of the night they go through your purse to make sure you didn't steal anything and ... god fuck this job, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my other job ... nice people, small nice place ... treat you like family.

Seriously does this sound right to you?

I am currently looking for another job to replace this one but it's hard to find jobs. What should I do?

Should I suck it up for the 4 months? [it'll pretty much double my speanding money for the trip 2,500$ to 4,500$]

I feel like I might scream if this keep up though, I plan on telling my fellow co-worker to mind her own f-ing business and do her work [she does like nothing but hound me]

First thing is, I am almost certain that they are not allowed to go through your bag without your permission. At least that is what happens in Canada. You can not be searched without your permission or by court order. So I wouldn't put up with that for two minutes.

It's spring, there are plenty of other places hiring. To hell with that place. I've heard many stories of bad first days at a new job but this is ridiculous. Maybe they were just testing you? One of my friends actually works at one of the stores and she loves it. Were she to be stuck in the kind of environment you just described she'd probably end up punching someone (It's her personality lol) so it's obvious that your store takes things way too seriously compared to others.

Thanks for replying guys ^^

I'm glad you feel the same as I do.

I don't think they are testing me, I was there 2 shifts actually [tues/wed nights] so far I just combined both days since they were pretty much the same thing. I am working tomorrow b]friday[/b night .. and the manager told me "that's when the job gets stressing" ... O_o like it isn't now?! Haha.

I applied at CVS .. since I am already working at a pharmacy I think I can handle CVS as well ... they're hireing too, so I'm going to call the CVS manager tommorow to see if I can get hired.

If I DO I'm going in to the other job as quitting straight up. I'm just going to be like "Yeah so this isn't working out, I quit" then walk off the job .. wouldn't use them for reconmendations anyways ... it would feel sooooo good.

I know I thought that as well. But there they were rummiging[sp?]. My father is in law enforcement [you seem to be too ^^] and he said it didn't sound right. I know the mall is in a city, but come on ....

Haha coincidences galore. I've worked at a CVS before albeit for a short amount of time. It's much less hectic there (Unless you work at one in NYC where my best friend once worked). Seeing how you already have experience with a Pharmacy and cashiering you should definitely be hired. I remember being told by one of the managers that the company (CVS) strongly suggests hire of experienced people if available. Most places, don't hire these people because they don't want to pay any extra wages, etc.... So if you get an interview, try to negotiate your salary upwards

It's "rummaging" And if they were going through your bag without your permission don't stand for that. But... as far as the other things, it's hard to say. Lot's of jobs have marginal qualities, and being able to work many different types of people is a great asset.

So, if you were able to work through and learn to work with them it could be beneficial for you in the long run. I'm not saying you should live through hell... but like I say, you could get good experiences dealing with all kinds of people.
