Hey guys, thanks sooooooo much for all your help. I think i've pretty much ruled out hiring a car due to financial limitations =P Most likely we'll just get the Greyhound busses orrrrrrrrr use the trains. I like trains, they're easier to sleep on than buses (and i should know because i fall asleep on them nearly every night after work hehe).

My question is why are you going from Vegas to San Francisco and then to Phoenix?

To answer your question, we're starting in Vegas because my friend is getting married there on the 22nd, and neither of us will have enough money to do any travelling before that date comes.

Unfortunately the train (Amtrak) is a lot more expensive then Greyhound (even more expensive than flying many times) and goes to a very limited number of places.

Transportation is just so expensive in the US right now. Inflation has been very high in recent years and with the cost of fuel the cost of travelling has really gone up. I drove 11,000 miles on a road trip last summer and fuel cost me $300 MORE than the same trip would have 5-6 years ago.

Maybe you could try to find someone in the US who has a car and wants to travel with you guys and split costs? That would be the cheapest and most flexible option.

First of all I would rethink you itinerary. If you are going to Pheonix do it while you are in vegas its only like a few hours to drive there. As for transportation I have to agree with the guy that said Enterprise. The cheap cars there for under 25 can be around $30 a day with unlimited mileage! If I were you and you have the time I would fly up to San Fran and find your way to I-80 it goes right through Chi-town and NYC and you will see a lot more! Also you can take 80 to 75 to Detroit and head right into Ontario from there. All an all I would honestly stay clear of Greyhound. I have never really liked using it and I have doubts that it will be cheaper then renting a car.

Let me know if you need more help!
