My friend and I would like to go to Varna, leaving from Salzburg. Does anyone out there know of the best/fastest way to get there? I can't seem to find an airline to take us there, the only way that I have found so far is to get to Sofia somehow and then take a 10 hour train to Varna. I would like to fly there to avoid such a long trip by train. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
www.bahn.de is predicting a trainride to last 32 hours. From Sofia or Bucharest it would still be a trip of 8-10 hours by train.
I think you should consider getting to the airport in Munich, and get a flight to Varna from there. LTU, flies that route on mondays, it ain't the cheapest company, and they only fly this route on Mondays. (and some of the summerflights are already sold out)
Another option is to fly to Sofia from Vienna (Hemus Air or SkyEurope), and get a flight with Hemus Air to Varna.
Thank you for your help...again .
I'm finding how difficult it is to get there...we will be in Munich just before we get to Salzburg, perhaps we should re-think the order of our destinations. I appreciate the help.
only if you can leave on a monday from Munich, and you can get a ticket. If not it's easier to keep Munich before Salzburg, as you would need to make the trip to Vienna.
I think there would be another option, and that would be to take a flight back to Cologne or Düsseldorf from Salzburg (TUIfly), and take a flight to Varna from there (LTU or Condor), but you need to check if these flights connect.
again, no problem ...
I recommend that you do a search for charter flights to Varna.
You might also be able to lay your hands on a good deal if you book last minute. See www.ltur.com if you read German.
Frankly, I would book a 7-day package deal from a German or Austrian travel agency if I wanted to go to Varna. It is difficult to find accomodation in Varna as an independent traveller, because it is a typical holiday resort town (Lots of ugly concrete next to a gorgeous beach.) You'll get cheap flights plus accomodation in a 3 star hotel for your money in the package deal - if you book the flights seperately and then walk into one of the many hotels, you'll pay a lot more. (If you can even find a place in summer, when everything is booked out.)
If you want to go on from Varna to Istanbul, this also is no problem. Nobody requires you to take the return flight and when I was there there was frequent ferry shuttle service to Istanbul.
