Good day everyone.
I will be coming to the US in May. Im coming for a job interview in San Francisco. I will be here for a week. I arrive on the saturday evening with my job interview being on the Sunday.
So from the the Monday i will be free to do what i want. I really want to hire a car and drive down the west coast. The places i would really like to visit are : Santa Barbara, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Los Angeles and the Grand Canyon.
Would that be possible in a week?
I've only booked my flights and my first nights accommodation. I didn't book anymore accom because i never knew where i'd be. Are hotels easily booked if you just turn up? Any advice on car hire?
Any information would be very much appreciated!!
Honestly, no. If you'd spend a day at each place that's almost a week but obviously for LA and Grand Canyon you'll need multiple days if you intend on thoroughly explore these areas. May is a decent time to book hotels on the spot. It's just in June when it starts to get back especially with senior week (Celebrations for high school seniors graduating) which I know is pretty infamous on Cali beaches.
I'm gonna agree with NantesFC that you have an ambitious schedule. And the Grand Canyon will really be pushing it. It's a solid day's drive from the coast and accommodations can be be booked up months in advance.
I would suggest dropping Newport Beach and spending time in Laguna Beach right next door. Great art colony there and lodging and parking might be easier.
You didn't say which Saturday in May you're arriving. I trust it's not the 26th which will be during the Memorial Day weekend; the start of the summer holiday season and one of the busiest days of the year for traffic and hotels. If it is the 26th all our advice can be chucked out the window and good luck. If you're leaving that weekend allow lots of extra time at the airport.
