Hi All, would 3 weeks be enough time to drive from Perth to Darwin?

Would you also get down to Ayers Rock in that time?

Any advice from somebody who has done this would be great!

Thanks.

You probably could get from Perth-Darwin in 3 weeks if you spent nearly all the time on the road, but it would be a waste of a trip to Australia if you were to do all of this in so little time. Getting to Uluru from Darwin as well would just be rediculously difficult and you'd probably have not enough time to do anything but drive, go to the toilet, get a snack on the move and sleep. It is about 2450km from Perth to Broome and if you did some of the must do's on the way up, you'd need to take some detours adding quite a bit of distance on to your trip. Then from Broome-Darwin would probably be about another 1844km and from Darwin-Uluru is another 1935km. So you are looking at travelling a minimum of 6229km assuming you went the most direct/most boring routes in only 3 weeks meaning on average close to 300km a day of driving with no days in between driving.

What would be a little more realistic but still pretty full on would be if you Drove up as far as Broome via Monkey Mia/Shark Bay. Then you get a flight from Broome to Darwin. If you wanted to fit Uluru in as well and depart from Darwin, you'd probably need to get a return flight from Darwin to Ayers Rock Airport (flight would go via Alice Springs).

Even if you couldn't do as much as you want, it'd still be worth the trip from Perth-Broome via Monkey Mia. You probably wouldn't get a chance to explore the Kimberley or Pilbara too much due to time restrictions and the fact going on a tour costs a major fortune wont help (almost as much per day as the per day cost on a cruise to Antarctica).

Have a great trip.
