Ipod Shoes + Airport Security

Travel Forums General Talk Ipod Shoes + Airport Security

I'm assembling my packing list for my upcoming trip. Because of the amount of running I'm going to have to do at my changeover airport, I wanted to wear running shoes. Particularly my pair with the Ipod chip, as I plan to utilize that function when I'm over there.

I'm just worried because in all my travels, I always had to put my shoes through the x-ray machine. Has anyone travelled with this chip in their shoes? Do you get hassled at security? I really don't want to bring two pairs of running shoes, but if I have to I will.

They make shoes with an I-Pod Chip??

Wow, technology is going crazy... Do they sing to you privately, or is it a public performance?

I can just hear the clash of different shoes songs during a marathon...

I'm sure if they do hassle you, a demonstration will amuse them enough to let you through.

Like a music-crazy Richard Reid, eh? :)

Security will doubtlessly detect that chip; depending on the officer's knowledge of modern technology, you may or may not be believed, and get in a hassle explaining yourself accordingly. I'd rather stick to my walkman :)

The shoes are Nike running shoes with a chip that communicates to your Ipod monitoring your workout plan. You set a goal in miles, minutes or calories, and the Ipod recieves info from your shoes on how much you've done, your pace, time, etc. and notifies you on milestones while you listen to your music.

It's incredibly motivating. I plan to use the Ipod and shoes to keep track of how much walking I've done in a day while I'm over there. It's much more fun to spend time walking in a foreign town than purchase a gym membership at the hotel.

Just tell them before hand that you have a chip in your shoes

Maybe it's best to leave your chipped Nikes at home. You can save your breath from explaining.

We went to the States a few months ago and US border security asked us questions on what we plan to do and what are jobs are, how we met. 2 of my girlfriends work for an loan company that does all their business through phone, email and live chatting. When my friends where asked about their jobs, they describe what they did and the border patrol thought they were working for an online adult entertainment and we hauled to a holding room while they searched our car and luggage and more questions.
Some people just don't keep up with the times and technology like in our case, where online services is big business

However, if you're really adamant about your shoes, I'd suggest, to bring the manual, box packaging, information about it to show to the security folks

If I were you I put aa of them in the bag, before the security arrest you for carrying an Ipod bomb in your shoes.
