There is no Amtrak in Columbus, as far as I know.

You could catch the Amtrak train from Cleveland to Detroit via Toledo, cross the river and catch Via train to Toronto. Or you could take the Amtrak from Cleveland to Buffalo, and then either the Amtrak or Via train to Toronto.

Is there a reason you want to take a train? Frankly, I think buses might be easier and more frequent.

Have you considered flying? There are airfares posted roundtrip for $289 USD, or one way $147 USD which will actually be half price for visiting Brits on currency exchange.

To get to Detroit from Toledo Amtrak would either put you on a bus or send you back tracking to Chicago and then over to Detroit. Once in Detroit, you have to self transfer yourself across the border. There is a bus called "The Tunnel Bus" that picks up right at the entrance to the Windsor Tunnel and will take you across the border.
