Here is my rough itinerary for solo travel by train so far:

15-May Fly in
16-May Paris, France
17-May
18-May
19-May Bruges, Belgium
20-May
21-May
22-May Amsterdam, Netherlands
23-May
24-May
25-May Munich, Germany
26-May
27-May
28-May Lucerne, Switzerland
29-May
30-May
31-May Nice, France
1-Jun
2-Jun
3-Jun Venice, Italy
4-Jun
5-Jun
6-Jun Rome, Italy
7-Jun
8-Jun
9-Jun Fly from Rome to Athens, ferry to Mykonos, Greece
10-Jun
11-Jun
12-Jun
13-Jun ferry back to Athens, Greece
14-Jun
15-Jun fly home

I am trying to spend about 3 days in each city. I kind of stuck Nice, France, in there because I had some extra days so that could be replaced with anything along the way. I also wasn't sure about which city to go to in Germany, Switzerland, or Belgium. Basically I have the rough route set up, but am not sure which cities would be best to see, and for how long each. I heard Athens wasn't anything too spectacular so I am spending the extra time in Mykonos instead. I've also already bought the plane ticket so the endpoints of Paris and Athens are set.

Any substitutions, or adjustments to the number of days in each city that might be good?

In my opinion you would need a minimum of 4 days in Rome, 5 would be better.

Brugges, can do with 2 days, unless you have some plans for daytrips, like Ieper/Ypres.

Lucerne wouldn't be my choice in Switzerland. As I would like to be in a place in the mountains. Try Interlaken, or if you want a small village, try Gimmelwald. I think the mountains is what make Switzerland special, but the cities are not that special. As a matter of fact Austria is way cheaper, so you might want to consider Austria instead. (Innsbruck), but that would make Nice, a more difficult place to get to. (even from Lucerne it's about 10-11 hours, so imagine from Austria). Maybe if Nice seems hard to get to, you might want to consider Florence, as it is on-route already.

Athens is good for about three days, together with three days in Mykonos, that would be perfect.

My shedule would look like this.
15-May Fly in
16-May Paris, France
17-May
18-May
19-May
20-May Bruges, Belgium
21-May
22-May Amsterdam, Netherlands
23-May
24-May
25-May Munich, Germany
26-May
27-May
28-May Innbruck, Austria
29-May
30-May Venice, Italy
31-May
1-Jun Florence
2-Jun
3-Jun
4-Jun Rome, Italy
5-Jun
6-Jun
7-Jun
8-Jun
9-Jun Fly from (Rome to Athens, ferry to) Mykonos, Greece*
10-Jun
11-Jun
12-Jun ferry back to Athens, Greece
13-Jun
14-Jun
15-Jun fly home

Note that the Amsterdam - Munich trip would be the one haul that is really long, but it is possible to take a nighttrain for this route (leaves at 20.32 in Amsterdam), which is a direct one, so no worries about needing to get up, for a change at 5.15 am. Another possibility would be to train to Cologne or Düsseldorf, and to get a flight from there.

Alright, I think I'll take up your suggestion on going to Interlaken instead as the mountains/sights are what I'm going for mainly. I also think i'll drop Nice and go to southern france when I return to check out portugal and spain on a later trip.

I just did a google image search on innsbruck and it looks pretty amazing, so what do you think about

Amsterdam -> Rhine Valley -> Interlaken -> Innsbruck ->Venice?

I am not married to Munich, but I'd like to go somewhere in germany and somewhere in switzerland for sure. I think the plane into mykonos is a great idea too as maximizing time is more important to me than maximizing money (to a degree).

Heres the updated itinerary:

15-May Fly in
16-May Paris, France
17-May
18-May
19-May Bruges, Belgium
20-May
21-May Amsterdam, Netherlands
22-May
23-May
24-May Rhine Valley/overnight train to Munich, Germany
25-May
26-May
27-May Interlaken Switzerland
28-May
29-May
30-May Innsbruck, Austria
31-May
1-Jun
2-Jun Venice, Italy
3-Jun
4-Jun
5-Jun Rome, Italy
6-Jun
7-Jun
8-Jun
9-Jun Fly to athens from 9am-noon
10-Jun
11-Jun
12-Jun Fly to Mykonos at 7am
13-Jun
14-Jun
15-Jun Fly to athens at 7:25am, Fly home at 8:45

My main interests are in the mediterranean so i'd probably like to spend the most time in either italy or greece. You say rome is good for 5 days, is that just the city or does that include day trips?
