Travel Forums Europe 6 hour layover at Heathrow- enough time for Windsor??

I'm thinking with 6 hours in between flights, I might be able to get to Windsor (not enough time to tour London properly) & look around for 2-3 hours (maybe just tour the castle) then get back hopefully 2 hours before departure.

what do you guys think? Is it doable? & if it is...what is the cheapest, quickest, easiest way to get from Heathrow to Windsor? Of course what might be the cheapest may not be the quickest.....

Hi - sadly, in my opinion, I don't think this is a sensible idea, Heathrow is busy and complicated and you could be left with a panicky runaround to get to your flight on time, or a frustratingly short time to look around Windsor.

However if you do decide to do it:
- The very shortest trip to Windsor from Heathrow via train is 1 hour (each way), via Hayes, if you're lucky and the trains run on time.
- You could do it in less than 40 minutes in a taxi but don't use a black cab 'cause it will cost you an absolute fortune - pre-book with a local company.

If your bags are through checked and you get through immigration quickly I reckon go for it! You have to be back at the airport one hour before your next flight, so give yourself 2 hours (traffic can be hell) so yeah yuo shoudl be fine, take either the bus or the train, cabs are really expensive!

Alternatively, you could take a bus from the terminal bus station and go to Hampton Court, only takes 20- - 45 minutes by bus and it drops yuo off right outside.. Lovely there, by the river etc, (if a nice day of course)
